Bar Nineteen 12, located in the historic Beverly Hills Hotel is named after the year that the famed hotel opened its doors – but its newest addition, is anything but old school. Inside, the beautiful
bar boasts stunning hard wood floors, luxurious leather chairs and round tables all seeming to glow in the pale yellow light that bathes the room. The outside terrace feels like an island paradise with large wicker chairs outfitted with comfy white cushions gaze out onto palm trees and one of the hotel’s luscious gardens. But the pleasures of this bar do not end with its surroundings.

The leather bound menus that dot each table are filled with a wide variety of choices aimed to satisfy the adventurous drinker as well as the traditionalist. Moreover, the wait staff doesn’t just look pretty, they’re also knowledgeable, and eager to share recommendations ranging from food to drink. The drinks are not only cleverly named – The Between the Sheets cocktail beckoned while the Shady Lady intrigued – but they are also delicious. A freshly made Raspberry Mojito, made with fresh raspberries and mint, is served in a tall elegant glass, boasting a bright red hue and tastes as good as it looks. Another highlight, is the Cereal Milk cocktail. Though it used to be on the menu, it has been removed, and is now a bartender’s special. Almost milkshake-like in thickness, it is served in a giant frosted martini glass and tastes like a bowl of Cocopuffs with a decidedly adult kick.

The highlight of the cocktail menu, though, comes in the form of jelly shots. Traditionally, a cheap college staple, the Nineteen 12 version is anything but. Five jelly-shapes – ranging from B52 to Mojito to Bubblegum, arrive atop a rectangular glass box filled with ice. The shots positively glow, and each tastes as good as it looks. The nosh menu is a bar-goers dream offering some highlights like the Polo Lounge Caesar salad, Sliders served with fries and some extra-crispy Calamari. The Crunchy Coconut Lobster Tails are a light and satisfying – echoing the vacation vibe of the bar. They are served with a sweet dipping sauce and refreshing coleslaw. Perfect for sharing, the dish is a smash hit.

The crowd at Bar Nineteen 12 ranges from young locals to older hotel guests to the after-work crowd dressed to the nines. A great place for a date, drinks with friends or a leisurely nightcap, Bar Nineteen 12 is a breath of fresh air and the perfect escape from the urban jungle of L.A.
